MADE TO ORDER Ferrolithic Dagger

Regular price $800.00 Sale

THIS IS MADE TO ORDER. The blade you receive will be custom made for you, in this style. It will be very similar, but not precisely the same. Due to my wait list, expect a delay of 10-12 weeks until you get your order. I strive to get orders done in an expeditious manner, but I am only one artist, not a factory.

I got to thinking, that over many thousands of years of development, the actual cutting action of a stone knife has probably been refined to an incredible level.

So I contacted a buddy of mine, Donny Dust, who is a survivalist and professional caveman, to pick his brain about Neolithic blade tech. What a rabbit hole. If correctly made, they are very complex and utilitarian.

With Ferrolithic blade, you have the primary curved angles, but that angle is composed of countless smaller divots and chips. The actual cutting edge is even finer chips, which end up creating a slightly serpentine effect both looking directly at the edge, and in profile. . The 3D puzzle of topography then breaks surface tension, and creates a subtle, or bold sawing effect while being used in a draw cut, but only if it’s sculpted correctly. You can think of it almost as a subtle serration on two different dimensions of the edge.

This is an extraordinarily fun puzzle. I’ve been doing texturing like a knapped surface for a while, but it’s only recently I realized that there could be actual performance benefits to make the edge truly imitate a piece of stone.

The steel is 1075, the handle is a single sculpted piece of bloodwood, with a tiny amount of dried elk femur marrow mixed into the epoxy holding the tang in place.

The cordage is purely decorative.

*Please note* these measurements are only approximate, as each knife is handmade, and thus will be slightly different.
